OPEN LETTER TO THE NARENDRA MODI AND GOVERNMENT OF INDIA
_______________________ End the Violence and Intimidation Against Students and Youth Exercising Their Democratic Rights We, student movements from Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia and Burma, write to express our solidarity with the students and young people of India who have taken to the streets to defend their education, dignity and future. We are deeply concerned by reports of violence, intimidation, arrests and excessive force against students and peaceful demonstrators. Batons, tear gas, threats and detention are not legitimate answers to the grievances of a generation. The students are not enemies of the state. They are citizens demanding accountability from the institutions entrusted with their education and future. It is a fundamental democratic right.
